hope your weekend has been, and continues to be, simple and delightful! the way a weekend should be …
funny story …
so i published my last post with no thoughts from me because, well, that quote stands for itself. but i completely planned on my next post being my profound and oh, so eloquently stated commentary on what i’ve been learning in that area … of course, showing that i’m working on being more consistent {i.e. ON MY BLOG}
and, no joke, my internet went out.
SO.
i really have been working on small things. daily. across the board for life, work, play … everything. i just couldn’t show it on my blog the way i wanted to.
*******
i love this shot of our little sir today {via VSCOCAM and INSTAGRAM … two of my latest obsessive pleasures}:
*******
we just got him new flip flops. no bigs, right?? except this kid RUNS. all the time. and straight out of his flip flops.
which he HATES. there’s a minor meltdown every time and instead of me going through the roof, i just know “well, yep, he’s run out of his flip flops again…”
so what do we do? we make him walk slowly in them. for little moments at a time until he gets more comfortable. today i made him put them on himself … which he’s been refusing to do because he doesn’t like running out of them. and the above is the solution he came up with to help himself walk better.
hello, ADORABLE, first of all.
but the point being … eventually he will put them on right. eventually they’ll stay on his feet. and eventually he’ll RUN in them.
thanks to small things … day in and day out.
random example.
i know.
but it makes total sense in my world.
i asked my brother in law a few weeks ago as a creative {and a really fantastic, successful businessman}, what his best piece of advice to take huge, visionary type ideas and turn them into successful realities would be … especially for those with a more, errr, uh, “creative” way of thinking and approaching the world.
he said:
“consistent small things”.
that was it.
faaaantastic. even though i knew he was going to say something along those lines, i was hoping for a way cooler formula. and i probably gave him the virtual finger in mind as he said that {i may have even literally wrinkled up my nose and scowled at him…who knows}.
why?
because i work in spurts. i’m inspired in spurts, learn in spurts, work in spurts, play in spurts. even communicate in spurts.
period.
it can be a huge strength in certain situations!!
but in others, its a horrible weakness.
not one that will effect you immediately … but over time. slowly. like you don’t even notice it. and aren’t those things in life, the ones that slowly creep up on us, some of the most scary?!
and him saying that was just well timed … and hit straight to the heart of some areas that i’ve been taking a hard look at lately.
i can either choose to use “my natural style” as an excuse ….
“well, that’s just who i am so the whole world is really just going to have to deal with that”
{um, NO!}.
or…
“no, this isn’t how i naturally work … but i’m going to have to figure out a way to combine my natural self with what must be done otherwise i will look back on wasted time and wasted efforts and wonder what in the world i was even about”.
i’m choosing the later.
you’ll probably hear a lot about it. you’ll probably see some epic fails. i’ll probably have to remind myself several times that this is what i’m working on … and i need to work on it in small chunks. consistently. repeated. DELIBERATE {oh wait … posted about that eaaaarlier this year … clearly this is a theme
}. but i’m working.
so that’s my world.
what about you? how do you tackle life in small, consistent efforts? what works for you? what doesn’t? please, by all means, share your secrets!!
i’ll be sure to be sharing more of mine …
ladies and gentlemen, MY mama:
she is…
…caring.
…patient {infinitely}.
…thoughtful.
…helpful.
…wise.
…spiritual.
…freeing.
…understanding.
…consistent.
…intelligent.
…diligent.
…{appropriately} goofy.
…BEAUTIFUL.
just to name a few.
and she is the reason i am the mama i am today.
what do we kniew?! {yes, i just put that on my blog
} that i love you mom. THANK YOU.
i mean SERIOUSLY!
check out that so sweet face!
i love this image for so many reasons … one of which being this will be one of the sweet face that i’ll be able to see, squeeze, and PHOTOGRAPH in just 10 short days.

well hey there! been a while, eh?!
i sat down yesterday to let my creative mind design, wander and play a bit … and came up with this little gem. which will soon be gracing the wall in our little sir’s room.
sometimes its good to just PLAY.
and while doing so, i also spent some time composing some updated thoughts … which i’ll share soon.
i just can’t help it.
spring. new discoveries. style funk. bold color blocks. these two jokers.
all things i can’t get enough of.

***processed with VSCO Film***
{a.k.a. new discovery i can’t get enough of}
my wonderful friend SHAUNA is an amazing artist. on all levels. she approaches everything in her life from how she organizes her bathroom, to how she runs her business, to how she sees the world, to how she loves her family, with creativity. and it shows. so when she recommends something, you pay attention. period. she was raving the other day on her blog about her discovery of VSCO Film. so naturally … i was curious.
sure enough, once again, a flawless recommendation. it’s a post processing tool that will simply make you do a double take. it is designed to mimic film and bring the strengths of film and digital together … as they say “the legitimacy of film. the editability of digital”.
and it does just that.
now i’ll be the first to tell you that i haven’t shot a lot with film. i started that way … but only as a hobbyist, never as a professional. so my film experience is extremely limited as compared to some {that’s on the “business bucket list” to remedy in the future…}. but that is still what i started with. and i have a good foundational understanding. some of my most inspiring moments were watching those first images come to life in the darkroom after fumbling around with rolls of film in the dark, hoping and praying you paid good enough attention in class to not wreck your roll of film and getting used to smelling like who knows what chemicals….ahhh, it was so amazing.
and wouldn’t you know, i clicked on the preset of black and white film i used to shoot … mainly Ilford HP5 … and it was like magic. M.A.G.I.C. all of a sudden i was sitting back in the darkroom, tickled over my image that i had worked so hard to produce. only this time i just clicked a button. i’m still getting used to the color … it’ll come. but the black and white will simply amaze your socks off.
so. that being said. thank you, once again, shauna.
and if you love all things film {and even if you don’t}, you must, MUST check out VSCO film.
go.
now.
run.
{or type fast}.
and happy spring … here’s to many new discoveries of your own!
last night, with the click of a button on American Airlines, it was official {and i was thrilled!}.
HEY COLUMBUS, i’m headed back into town!!
i will be available on the above dates for spring sessions in the Columbus/Phenix City area. these sessions are designed for CURRENT CLIENTS ONLY. if i have room to make exceptions, i most absolutely will, but the intent is to come back to serve my current WONDERFUL clients {who i dearly miss…}.
so!
great Columbus/Phenix City/Ft. Benning folk who currently reside on my client list: i’ll be emailing out details and opening booking on MONDAY, MARCH 26th. just have to finalize a few last details. so keep an eye out on your inbox! i’ll book on a first come, first served basis, so you’ll need to respond as fast as your little fingers can type, text, or call me.
i. can’t. WAIT.
this sweet miracle will steal your heart . . .
{if you haven’t followed this family’s story . . . you should, HERE. they have some truly amazing things going on. things that you can be a part of, RIGHT NOW should you feel so led. like bringing home their other sweet boy from ethiopia. so seriously. GO. check it out. and you should also for real check out Brooke’s photography HERE . . . and give her a little love on her sweet, sweet images!}
so mr. finn is WAY past newborn now . . . like gage in my last post. but, in the name of catching up . . . i can’t not post them.
plus, its just so fun to look back and see these sweet moments.
plus, we get to SEE THESE THREE {they are real life, honest to goodness, heart friends . . . if you can’t tell, or didn’t know already
}, for real, in God’s Country itself, here in just a few short days. so in order to deal with my pre-visit excitement, i’m posting these.
enjoy these tiny fingers, toes, and sweet sleepy expressions . . . and know that this little man is headed for great things.
sweet, sweet little man . . .
don’t you just want to eat him up?!?! so very precious . . . and equally as such, his big brother.
as i was shooting these, i was just imagining the adventures these boys will get in together. there’s a quote floating around PINTEREST that says : “sometimes being a brother is even better than being a superhero”. how great is that?! and oh, so true.
{brenda, i think we’re going to have incorporate that in our next session . . . }
enjoy these today, blog friends!
